Dong Ding is also known in Japan as takayama (tall mountain) and is not easy to find. Oolong of this sort is not very popular in Japan, but is well known to experts and it is there that I learned this to be the best variety of semi-green (partially fermented) tea. The Dong-Ding from 'Tea from Taiwan' is the strongest and most well flavored one I have tried (out of about 5 different sources) and is also quite reproducible, in other words, the same brewing procedure yields the same tea time after time.
Since this tea is tightly packed 'leaf balls', it is quite appropriate to vacuum pack it, which is done, and I think this helps retain its unique flavor.
