Description

Spring 2017

Shan Ling Xi wu long tea (oolong tea) is from a mountain area in Nantou county of central Taiwan and is located at about 1,900 meters above sea level. This high elevation provides ideal growing conditions for wu long tea as the air remains cool year round. Tea plantations have been established in Shan Ling Xi since the 1970's. It has since become known as one of the premier tea producing regions of Taiwan and Shan Ling Xi wu long tea is prized by Taiwanese tea connoisseurs.

Shan Ling Xi wu long has an exquisitely smooth taste with just a hint of flowers. The slight astringency to this wu long tea provides a refreshing cleansing effect to the palate, so this tea is ideal after a heavy meal. The smoothness of Shan Ling Xi tea has a buttery quality to it, and later brewings bring out a unique smokiness that settles on the tongue with a very pleasing sensation.

Shan Ling Xi wu long tea can be brewed slightly longer than the Wu Ling wu long tea. Fifty seconds is recommended for the first pot when brewing this tea gong fu style. When brewing Shan Ling Xi wu long tea you will notice the sweet aroma which gives just a hint of the wonderful flavours to come.

This is a follow up on the last review I posted. I received a package of the Winter 2016 harvest of this Shan Ling Xi Oolong tea and it was excellent. Brewed Gung Fu style it has all of the nuances of flavor ranging from vegetal to stone fruit, each brewing bringing out a new flavor and aroma.

Although this is one of my favorite teas, I was disappointed with this order of Shan Ling Xi Oolong Tea. It was bland and did not have any of the qualities I have come to expect from past orders of this tea. The tea had lost its flavor and aroma. Perhaps it was too old or not stored properly. The Shan Ling Xi tea I have ordered in the past was aromatic with a nice, vegetal flavor.

Order this and Four Seasons few weeks ago and I have a chance to compare the two. Its aroma is somewhat weaker than other Oolong friends brought to me from Taiwan and you have to put more tea leaves to obtain enough aroma. This may be my friends' gifts are higher priced ones. My wife does like its slight sweat after-taste. Four seasons' aroma is also slightly weak remediable by adding more leaves. And I feel that Four seasons may be a better value, comparing these two.

Mild tea in gold brown color. The tea is really fresh with bouquet aromas. I love to look at these little curled balls expand to full leaves during the steeping. This is one of my favorite teas from Tea From Taiwan and I will definitely continue to order them from Tea From Taiwan and enjoy this tea for years to come.

This wulong is excellent!!! It has the floral smell of jasmine and carnation. It has a sweet and buttery hints behind a light astringency. I steep until I get rich folks color at 83°C . I get three good cups... Tasty starts to wane after four or so. Definitely a great buy. gi Germantown, MD. 2015-06-03

It has been a few years since I have had tea that was this wonderful to drink. The aroma is floral and the taste is bitter-with slightly sweet notes upfront, but finishing with a pleasant bitter taste. I prefer a stronger Oolong in the afternoon after lunch and this particular tea is exactly what I desire in an Oolong. Moreover, because it is on the side of stronger flavor, it can be steeped several times and each time it retains the favor and aroma of the first steep (although not as strong). I highly recommend this tea for people who love to continue to drink their tea throughout the day and don't mind using the same leafs as it would be wasteful to do so given the potency of these leafs.
