Winter 2011

Da Yu Ling oolong tea (wu-long tea) is a premium-grade oolong tea from the Da Yu Ling area of Taiwan's Taichung county. Its high altitude (more than 2400 meters) makes this one of the highest tea plantations in the world.

Da Yu Ling has a wonderful fragrance and taste. It is a lightly oxidized oolong tea with a refreshing palate that is sought after by the most demanding tea connoisseurs. Da Yu Ling is produced in limited quantities and is one of the most prized teas of Taiwan.

Da Yu Ling is located on Mount Li (Li Shan or Pear Mountain). The high elevation of this area causes the tea leaves to grow slowly and develop their smooth, rich flavor. To fully appreciate this fine oolong tea, it is recommended to brew it gong fu style.

I have to agree with Jacob S. To me it is indeed no better than a mediocre AliShan. I much prefer the DongDing MingXiang, which is outstanding.

2011 Amazing... one of the most incredible teas I've had this season. Found that it peaked at about 4 pours- however it was still delicious at 8 pours.

As one of the more expensive tea's offered, I would offer that it is worth every penny. I have tried many different teas at all price levels, and Da Yu Ling Oolong clearly outshines each of them. You know it as soon as the aroma starts to waft up from the pot. The flavor is unforgettable, and reminds you of the saying, "You get what you pay for".

In 2010 this "da yu ling" was easily 5 stars, wonderful fragrance and deep floral flavors that lasted for many steepings, I just ordered some in March 2011 and it was lackluster for the price, very weak flavor compared to last year and the flavor dissipated quite a bit after one steeping. It reminded me of a mediocre Ali Shan.

No wonder the price increases each year for true Da Yu Ling tea, not only that this tea is from one of the highest elevation plantation in the world, but it is also unique and best among high mountain oolongs. This is the most oily, coating the mouth, and it is increadibly smooth tea. This version is the light fired, light oxidised green version, I had this year the high fired version, both were stellar.

It’s an excellent tea. I brew it with gongfu tea pot. It’s has beautiful clear yellow color, hard to describe fancy fragrant and sweet aftertaste. In second and third brewing the color became more darker but the taste is still hold.
